THE SEASON'S ORACLE
The feminine spiritual message is perpetually
revealed by the turning of the seasons, and, above all,
we see our own experience of transitions and changes
mimed by the moon's monthly orbit. Like the faces of the moon,
women's own cycles, moods, and roles pantomime
the ever-changing Essence of female sexual and spiritual power
The Mother-god's most important lesson is that
Divinity exists in everything and all life is sacred and erotic.
Her lessons are shown in circles, cycles, spirals, webs, and wheels.
These symbols of turning, holding, connecting, enfolding,
embracing, and returning are all metaphors for Life
in the Feminine Way.
The season begins on DECEMBER 21, and ends FEBRUARY 1. It is symbolized by the FIRST moon-phase, the NEW MOON.
A New Moon is a symbol of conception, of containment, of waiting, of gestation, of bringing forth, and of release. As the moon orbits between earth and sun each month, it becomes completely encircled by the sun's aura, embraced in the sun's light. Just so, it can be a sign of how life begins with the merging of sperm and egg; of how the embryo is embraced, contained in the mother's womb; of how a seed is held, nourished, in the soil of earth; of how a new idea is conceived and gestates in our mind.
Winter Solstice marks the longest night of the year, and the date at which light begins to overpower dark once again.
Ancient goddess cultures understood these Dark Nights were times for endings and new beginnings. This is a season of prophecy and of waiting for something to come out of hiding, to wake from slumber and emerge renewed.
That Something is the spirit of Life within ourselves.
