THE SEASON'S ORACLE

The Moon is the Mirror of the Goddess

The Wyrd Sisters Balsamic Moon

The feminine spiritual message is perpetually revealed by the turning of the seasons, and, above all, we see our own experience of transitions and changes mimed by the moon's monthly orbit. Like the faces of the moon, women's own cycles, moods, and roles pantomime the ever-changing Essence of female sexual and spiritual power   The Mother-god's most important lesson is that Divinity exists in everything and all life is sacred and erotic. Her lessons are shown in circles, cycles, spirals, webs, and wheels. These symbols of turning, holding, connecting, enfolding, embracing, and returning are all metaphors for Life in the Feminine Way.

THIS IS THE SEASON OF
SAMHAIN = HALLOWEEN
and
THE WISE WOMAN ARCHETYPE

The season begins on OCTOBER 31, and ends DECEMBER 21. It is symbolized by the EIGHTH moon-phase, the BALSAMIC moon.

~ BALSAMIC MOON ~ SAMHAIN ~ Rising in the wee hours of morning, the darkest hours before dawn, a boat-shaped waning crescent moon drifts on the horizon, arriving to carry us to a land of mystery. It is the time when we dream our deepest dreams. Unseen, the moon leads the sun through the day’s transit across the heavens-- like the mystical Wise Women of enchanted lands led heroes to their destiny across the deep waters of Time. Named for a plant known for its soothing balm, the moon’s Balsamic phase is a time for healing wounds. We are reminded that death is merely the doorway into the next life, and we may rejoice in a momentary reprieve from earthly struggles.

SAMHAIN: (October 31) Halloween. Winter’s eve. The cold winds wail and sigh among bared branches. The veil between worlds grows thin, so we see how death and decline are but the shadow-sides of birth and growth-- necessary for life’s cycles to continue unbroken. Festivals of the Dead honor ancestors and call forth strange wonders.
